I still have a policy with RSA. How do I make a claim?

Making a claim through RSA

Nottingham Building Society, together with RSA, hope that you never have to make a claim. But we understand there may be a time when you need to, so here’s how you can do that.

  1. When an accident happens, you should take any reasonable immediate action you think is necessary to protect property and belongings from further damage, such as switching off the gas, electricity or water.
  2. Call the RSA claims helpline on 0345 072 7148. Only the policy holder or an authorised person on their behalf can report the claim. Please have your policy number handy when you call. RSA may ask you to provide further information and/or they may wish to arrange a visit and inspection. For your protection, telephone calls may be recorded and monitored.
  3. Claims conditions require you to provide RSA with any reasonable assistance and evidence that may be required concerning the cause and value of any claim. Ideally, as part of the initial notification, RSA will need to know:
    • your name, address, home and mobile telephone numbers.
    • personal details necessary to confirm your identity.
    • policy number.
    • the date of the incident.
    • the cause of the loss or damage.
    • details of the loss or damage together with claim value if known.
    • police details where applicable.
    • names and addresses of any other parties involved or responsible for the incident (including details of injuries) and addresses of any witnesses.

This information will enable RSA to make an initial evaluation on policy liability and claim value. They may, however, request additional information depending upon circumstances and value which may include the following:

  • Original purchase receipts, invoices, instruction booklets, photographs, bank or credit card statements, utility bills, pre-purchase surveys, or plans or deeds of your property.
  • Purchase dates and location of lost or damaged property.
  • For damaged property, confirmation from a suitably qualified expert that the item you are claiming for is beyond repair.
Who are Uinsure?

Uinsure are a highly regarded insurance provider and have an excellent Trustpilot rating as well as a 5 Star Defaqto-rated home insurance policy, meaning they deliver flexible, high quality home insurance and buy to let cover, as well as excellent customer service.

What is a panel arrangement and how does it work?

Uinsure’s insurance policies are backed by a panel of the UK’s leading insurers. This panel of insurers underwrite the cover and will each review your policy and the risks associated with it before presenting a price.

This means the quote you’re offered will be the lowest priced option available from Uinsure’s panel of trusted insurers. And, because each of them would’ve bid for your custom on the same policy, it’s easy to see which one offers the best value.

They’ll also do this automatically each time your policy is due for renewal, so you always get Uinsure’s best available renewal price.

How can I pay for my policy?

You can pay for your policy by making a one-off payment for the year or by making monthly instalments.

Annual payments can be made by debit/credit card; alternatively monthly payments can be made by direct debit.

How do I make a change to my policy?

For Uinsure new customers:

Uinsure does not charge any adjustment fees to make a change to your policy. Simply contact the customer service team on 0344 844 3844 (lines are open Monday - Friday between 9:00 and 17:00) and they’ll be happy to help.

For RSA existing customers:

If you need to make an immediate change to your existing cover, you should contact RSA using the contact details contained in your policy booklet. RSA will make the change and, if relevant, will pass the information to Uinsure to make sure you get an accurate new home insurance quotation.

How do I cancel my cover?

If you want to cancel your existing policy with RSA, you can contact them using the contact details contained in your policy booklet. You may be entitled to a refund of premium, provided that no claim has been made during the current insurance period.

If you want to cancel your policy with Uinsure, please contact their customer service team on 0344 844 3844.

Where can I find my policy documents?

You can read your Uinsure policy document here. This describes what is insured and the events you are insured against during the period of insurance. It also details the procedures to follow should you need to make a claim and outlines what the policy does not cover.
