£100,000 donation to fight against homelessness

To mark World Homelessness Day on the 10th October 2023 we announced a significant donation of £100,000 to Emmanuel House Support Centre, a Nottingham-based charity that tackles isolation, vulnerability and homelessness. Our contribution marks the beginning of a partnership aimed at helping address these critical issues.

The donation will play a crucial role in enabling Emmanuel House to enhance its portfolio of temporary accommodation and expand its wraparound support services, including access to healthcare, advice, training, and companionship, for individuals at immediate risk of homelessness.

For over four decades, Emmanuel House has been at the forefront of supporting individuals who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or have previously experienced homelessness in Nottingham. Their mission encompasses providing not only essential services like shelter and meals but also critical wraparound support. Since April 2022, Emmanuel House has supported 716 people, served 2106 meals, and provided 296 hot showers to those in need.

Chief Executive Officer, Sue Hayes, comments: "We are proud to be standing shoulder to shoulder with Emmanuel House in their critical mission to combat homelessness in our community. Our donation marks the beginning of a partnership, and we are committed to collaborating closely to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. Many of our team have already volunteered for the charity this year, witnessing first-hand the remarkable work done by Emmanuel House in providing support and care to those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or have previously experienced homelessness. Their experience serves as our inspiration to take action."

Denis Tully, Chief Executive Officer at Emmanuel House Support Centre, comments: "This partnership offers a remarkable opportunity for us to expand our services and provide essential support to those experiencing homelessness in Nottingham. Together, we can make a tangible and lasting difference in the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community”.

As part of our partnership, our colleagues have committed to a range of volunteering activities, including the Winter Shelter program from October to April, where they will prepare and serve meals to those staying at the shelter. They will also be arranging collections for food, clothing, and donations to further support Emmanuel House's mission.

Colleagues have volunteered at Emmanuel House numerous times in the past few months offering services such as DIY and freshening up a space for commercial use as well as business skills in legal, operations and negotiations.

As a Society we are very much looking forward to making a difference in our local community.
